Newton Medical Center earns national recognition for performance improvement
Newton Medical Center received recognition from the fifth annual Thomson Reuters study that analyzes performance of hospitals.

In the August 11 issue of “Modern Healthcare,” NMC is included in the top 100 performance improvement leaders in the United States. NMC is listed in the small community hospital section of the article.
Only two other Kansas hospitals made the list: Via Christi in Wichita and Mercy in Manhattan. This data was gathered from public Web sites, such as “Hospital Compare” and “Leapfrog,” and analyzed over a five-year period. The winners are those hospitals that consistently showed improvement.
Literature from the Reuters organization states:
“This is a leadership and management award. It recognizes the leadership demonstrated by the board, head medical staff, CEO and senior management team to start the long performance improvement journey and stimulate improvement that is faster and more consistent than that of their peers across the United States. The award also recognizes the CEO and senior management team’s ability to convert the mission and goals of the hospital into action over five years.”
According to a news article in the August 13 Wichita Eagle, the study examined more than 2,800 U.S. hospitals. While most hospitals struggled to improve performance between 2002 and 2006, “the winning hospitals illustrate that rapid, across-the-board improvement is possible,” study officials said.
