ASTYM Therapy

Newton Medical Center is the first in the area to offer a new, innovative therapy known as ASTYM to the public.

Specially trained therapists evaluate and treat chronic muscle and tissue problems, and tendonitis with this revolutionary therapy system.

The ASTYM system is a form of soft tissue mobilization that utilizes ergonomically designed instruments to identify and treat areas of fibrosis, chronic inflammation or soft tissue degeneration.

The ASTYM system works by treating inflammation that may be the result of trauma, surgery or overuse.  The system stimulates the breakdown of dysfunctional tissue and allows restoration of functional tissue.  As the soft tissue changes, pain decreases and function increases.

Patients who are experiencing pain, loss of motion or loss of function following surgery, injury or trauma disorders, and irritation/tendonitis often benefit from the ASTYM system.

Patients are typically discharged from treatment with improved function, decreased pain and the knowledge of how to manage the physical stresses incurred with activity.

The ASTYM system:
•    Is supported by scientific research and outcomes
•    Demonstrates success when other approached have failed
•    Often enables workers to stay on their job and athletes to stay in their sport
•    Often decreases the need for surgical intervention
•    Provides maximum results with a minimum number of treatments
